Current Events I
Cyberbullying is the biggest issue on media this time. Many people do not even realize how important this issue is. I think that most of us have seen cyberbullying on social media. What cyberbullying actually is? Cyberbullying is the use of cell phones, instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to harass, threaten or intimidate someone. (Margaret Rouse, 2015) The discussions that are happening on social media about who is pretty and who is not, if this girl is fat or not, even if some of us find that normal, this is called cyberbullying. I am sure that almost every single one of us has experienced cyberbullying. I’m sure you read a lot of articles about children, teenagers or adolescents that committed suicide due cyberbullying. Sometimes people don’t realize, how stupid words could heart a person that much that it could enforce a bullied person to death.
The event that was created by Susan Wind, who is a college professor and she made many criminal justice courses throughout the US, is for parents to learn about cyberbullying and social media. A lot of parents don’t even know, what are their children doing on their phones and tablets. This event was held on the 5thof December, 2018 at Brevard High School. This event was only for parents and children weren’t allowed to come. The things they were talking about were how to keep your children safer from social media, they learned about social media apps these days, for example Instagram that is very popular. They also learned about social media’s language, how to track their children online and methods of cyberbullying online. I think that this idea is very helpful, because a lot of parents don’t know what their children are doing online and this could help to prevent from cyberbullying overall around the world.
