What the Experts Say II

How television affects children? A lot of children in this generation has been using devices like tablet, phones and televisions from their youngest age, when they were still a baby. Elena Pearl Ben-Joseph had interviewed The American Academy of Pediatrics and they said that for example if children watch TV a lot, they will most likely be overweight. Or If children are playing or watching something in common with violence, they will most likely show aggressive behavior. AAP recommended the guidelines for screen time for children from babies to 18 years old teens. They also said that the video games that has a violence in it, practically tells the children to kill the enemy to reach the success. If a child is growing up with this manner and not seeing a difference between right and wrong, this could lead to the confusion. (AAP, 2016) When children see commercials on TV, especially with their idols in the ads, they will “must have it”. In this case, AAP said that the parents should explain to children that the goal of advertising is to make us want to buy things that we don’t need. Also, parents should teach their kids to be “Smart consumers” and always ask themselves the questions before they say they really need it and want it.
